Concept 💡

We were able to meet the owner Godwin for a little interview about his impressive life journey and the idea of Banana Farm Eco Hostel. The root of his concept was to build accommodations for people who want to get in touch with Tanzanian culture in the most sustainable way. Not only was his focus on growing their own veggies & fruits, buying from locals, recycling all materials that are used etc. but also to build a system, which provides energy to run the place. So Godwin created an eco-friendly bios gas system. Biogas, a sustainable and eco-friendly fuel, can be easily produced by oneself. With this incredible resource, one can effortlessly prepare meals, illuminate homes and even warm water to shower. Derived from the natural decomposition of organic waste, biogas is a remarkable form of bio-fuel.  If you want to find out more about their commitment to environmental sustainability, check this link.

Accommodation 🛏️

Rooms: Rooms & cabins from 1 up to 6 guests available

We decided to stay for 3 nights in the Double Eco Cabin – a super comfortable two-floor wooden cabin, with its own bathroom located a bit further off of the reception just by the banana plantation.

As we heard it was built by one of the banana Farm employees in only 6 months with only local materials. The cabin was clean, beds comfy and the employees were all ears, if there was anything we needed additionally. Tipp: Since it’s located in the middle of nature, make sure to keep your snacks wrapped up at all times.

Biggest flex of this cabin was that you are waking up in your bed with a stunning view of Mount Meru (assuming you are having a clear sky this morning. 😉

Food 🍌

Our booking came with a basic breakfast, and the star of the show was undoubtedly the delicious coffee, made from beans harvested right on the farm. For an additional, reasonably priced option, you can add lunch and dinner to your stay and savor beautifully homemade, authentic Tanzanian cuisine.

Got a passion for cooking? Godwin and his team are eager to welcome you into the kitchen anytime, where you can roll up your sleeves and learn how to prepare traditional Tanzanian dishes.

And here’s a treat for the in-between moments: if you ever get peckish between meals, there’s a charming little store offering local beer and homemade chips. Plus, you’re welcome to pluck sweet bananas straight from the branches—freshly harvested from the farm, of course!
